Background
Thwaites Brewery is a company with a rich history, founded in 1807 by Daniel Thwaites. Thwaites own lots of gorgeous properties including pubs and hotels, as well as the Brewery.
Thwaites approached us to build a replica pub for the Great Yorkshire Show. The pub would act as a brand activation to drive consumer awareness and give visitors a taste of what Thwaites are all about.
The pub we were to build would be a replica of The Lister Arms, one of Thwaites’ favourite pubs. The purpose of the project was to spread brand awareness and showcase the rich history of Thwaites, and to sell some of their products, like the beers.
We spent time making sure our skilled team of scenic painters were familiar with the brand in order to get the interiors and visuals spot on. We used lots of reference images and conducted site visits to make sure we nailed down every detail.
With any large build, erecting the structure is a challenge and this was made more difficult by extremely hot weather. But we made sure our team was well resourced, and powered through to get the job done to an extremely high standard.
We built a life-size fake pub, where visitors could go inside to grab one of Thwaites specially brewed beers. The activation even included a beer garden, also built by us, where visitors were invited to enjoy their beverage in the sun.
The interior of the pub was fitted out to give visitors a feel for what to expect at one of Thwaites’ properties. We had a brand information section, including various information stands and walls showcasing different elements of the brand, such as the brewery and the horses.
Working on a building-sized replica of a real pub was a rewarding challenge and we spent a lot of time on the details, which ultimately paid off. During the event, people were walking past and thinking it was a real pub building!
We did a lot of brand research and worked very closely with Nikki, Thwaites Marketing Director, to help her vision come to life.
I can’t recommend Anna and Bazaar Studio enough. From the initial conversation through to the very proud day when we stood in front of our amazing Lister Arms pop up, I can only say hugely positive things. We had never done anything like this before but Anna and the team held our hands throughout and, as well as adding to our ideas and adding great suggestions, they gave us 100% confident that the end result would be fantastic – and it was! Nothing is too much trouble and they are such a knowledgeable and friendly bunch too, so much so that I am already excited about the next project we can work on together.
